As I touch the splintered wood of the cross today, Good Friday of the Lord’s Passion, I am overcome with a range of emotions. Saddened by the death of my friend, Jesus. Grateful for His willingness to sacrifice His life for my salvation. Furious at the ones who put Him through such excruciating pain. Accused by my infidelity of His saving grace. Loved by His redemptive compassion that bears the burden of this world.

As I navigate these emotions, I can’t help but think of how Jesus has been with me through the entirety of my journey. Standing next to me through my most difficult trials, my life has been guided by his love for me. The pinnacle expression of that love is found on the cross, and through it I know that I am not alone.

Today I invite you to grip of the cross of Jesus as He has aided in carrying your cross throughout your life. Reflect on the blessings that He’s purchased for you through His blood, and know that He shares your life with you.

Today we mourn His death. Let us not forget the place that it holds in our lives.
